Spring 2027 National Leadership Opportunities
The 2027 slate of At-Large candidates will be asked for a small bio and written campaign statement and a two-minute video to be distributed by the national office at least 30 days in advance of the vote (election date TBA in Mar/Apr 2027).
National Council Function & Terms
The National Council (NC) is vitally important to Alpha Chi's ongoing success. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) honor society, the NC is Alpha Chi's nonprofit board of directors and the planning and executive arm of our organization. Secretary-Treasurers and Student Representatives elected during regional business meetings serve a dual role as NC members, along with eight at-large advisor members (4 elected every 2 years) who are elected during national business meetings. The duties of Council members are outlined in the Alpha Chi Constitution.
While Regional Student Representatives serve only one 2-year term each, all other members are elected to 4-year terms and may be re-elected with a maximum of 3 consecutive terms.
From the advisor members on the Council are elected three national officers: president, vice president, and secretary, all to 4-year terms. Along with the executive director, who serves ex-officio, these compose the executive committee, whose duties are outlined in Article VI of the Constitution.
Council Meetings & Time Commitments
The National Council meets annually but in-person mostly in National Convention years (biennially), and schedules a regular, 50-minute monthly virtual meeting which is not always needed. Each member is typically assigned to two working committees that operate throughout the year via email and/or Zoom meetings to accomplish their goals.
The time commitment for most non-officer members probably averages two hours a month. Council members may be called to serve as peer reviewers for Aletheia submissions in their academic discipline. A committee of Council members also judges the National Scholarship Competition each spring.
Council Member Expenses
Council members are not required to pay convention registration fees, and we meet in person no more than once a year. For in-person meetings, housing is currently arranged by AX, and members are reimbursed for their travel and meals. While monetary donations from board members are greatly appreciated, they are not required.
Spring 2027 Regional Leadership Opportunities
Alpha Chi chapters are divided into geographic regions. Seven regions are currently functioning as six after regions V and VI decided in 2026 to function together for now as one region (Region V-VI) and share one set of elected officers. Otherwise, Article VIII of the Alpha Chi Constitution outlines Alpha Chi's regional organization.
At the regional business meetings to be held virtually this spring, the following leaders should be elected:

Regional leadership is a great way to make a significant contribution to the honor society while gaining service hours and a resume/vita enhancement. Seeking Student Representative Candidates
Like the secretary-treasurer of each region, student representatives serve a dual term on the National Council. Students bring an important viewpoint and skill set and are full, voting members. As Council members, the students elected will have in-person Convention and/or Council Meeting expenses reimbursed by Alpha Chi.
